Coin Cloud — kiosk and phone linked by a tangerine coin

Context

Coin Cloud operated one of the largest Bitcoin ATM networks in North America, plus mobile and desktop wallet apps. Consumer-facing crypto with real money on the line.

Problem

Crypto UX is dense by default: wallets, fees, addresses, confirmations. The kiosk and apps needed to be approachable enough for first-time buyers without dumbing down for power users.

My role

Led design strategy for the kiosk, mobile wallet, and desktop wallet. Built and rolled out the design system that unified the three surfaces. Ran usability research and partnered with PMs to shape the roadmap.

Key decisions

A few moves that mattered.

01

One mental model across three surfaces

Aligned kiosk, mobile, and desktop on a shared task model and visual language so a user moving between them never had to relearn.

02

Progressive disclosure for complex flows

Surfaced only what the user needed at each step of a buy/sell flow, with optional detail panes for advanced users.

03

Design system as a shipping accelerator

Components, tokens, and patterns rolled out across teams to cut review cycles and lock visual consistency.

What I'd do next

Push further on accessibility for first-time crypto users and bake compliance UX (KYC, limits) more deeply into the system.
